TOO MANY BABIES ARE DYING IN KIRIBATI!
Precious little lives are in the balance!
In the small Pacific islands of Kiribati, 1 in 20 newborns do not survive early childhood because of illnesses related to unclean drinking water. The Island Rescue Project Inc is a non-profit organization working to help change this unacceptable situation, by bringing water purification and health remedies to the islands of more than 102,000 residents.
Kiribati still lacks the clean water infrastructure that is common throughout most of the developed world. The thousands who live there depend on rain water that is trapped in underground reservoirs. Unfortunately, this water contains the bacteria which are present in human and animal waste that leaches through the coral limestone soil into the fresh water reserves below. Well water is often unsafe to drink.
Carol Armstrong and The Island Rescue Project Inc recently visited Tarawa and Marakei Islands. There we spent 17 days helping provide natural gastro remedies, water purification and rain water tanks to 3 villages who only had access to tainted well water. Our visit was very well received a local group, KICHN, was set up to continue the work.
Our team of volunteers visited again over December 2014/January 2015. With your financial support, The Island Rescue Project can continue to provide vital supplies and equipment to improve the conditions presently found on Kiribati and other Pacific islands.
