Babies and children in Kiribati are dying due to the need of safe, clean water!
Climate change, rising sea levels and king tides are making life on the islands extremely difficult.
An average of 1/3rd of each of these low lying coral atoll islands is regularly flooded with salty sea water. This ruins the underground water wells for up to 15 years duration! Salt water is killing off established breadfruit trees, coconut palms and other major food crops.
Safe water supply underpins life. Clean water for drinking, cooking, washing and growing food.
With no mountains or rivers the islanders depend on rainfall to fill their tanks and wells.
With regular drought periods (El Nino) rainwater is no longer enough to meet demand and few island homes can afford to have water tanks or gutters.
The LOGICAL SOLUTION now is to turn to SOLAR WATER DE-SALINATION units. The Island Rescue Project is currently fund raising to purchase a RAPID RESPONSE portable de-salination unit that can be moved from village to village to fill their wells with fresh water from the ocean and the sun. This unit will supply 1,500 Lt of clean water per day and costs just 15,000 AUD
